The area of Librobäck in the North of Uppsala should be remodelled from an industrial
site to a modern suburban centre where industries, offices and shops can coexist with
living and enrich each other.Our focus was on providing a strategy for sustainable city
development both in ecological and social terms. Therefore we connect the area to the
existing river, sports centrum and educational and food facilities and suggest a central
ecologic park, taking care of the rainwater and connecting it to the river and
surrounding landscape.
The green space is continuing up on the terracehouses along the park who react on the
sites history with a terraced office building and a train track. Along the connecting
streets to the city the buildings are forming a traditional city-street with commercial
spaces on the entrance level and a generous walk and bicicle way with trees. At the
corner points we give the new quarter higher volumes for marking the corners and
advertising the new development area.
